“Me and You and a Dog named Boo” new paintings by Di West - opened 5th June 2010 - closed Sunday 4th July.

NEWS UPDATE - Congratulations to DI WEST being short-listed as finalist in the NOOSA TRAVELING SCHOLARSHIP 2010 for Sculpture.

These new paintings, to be exhibited for preview here on Sat June 5th at Main St Gallery Montville and showing for the month of June 2010 are the latest works in paint by the popular and diverse Maleny artist - Di West.

A new series of quirky and whimsical paintings, inspired by her recent holiday to Kauai, where Di has studied and captured some of the simplest and most ordinary moments she experienced whilst living on the island.

Capturing in paint everyday moments, domestic animals that jumped out to her visually, moments where a stray dog, or a noisy seagull, have caught her attention, seeming to tell her a little story, represented with bold, fresh colours and thought provoking compositions.

"Perhaps it is the holiday spirit that makes things seem to sparkle more, things just jump out to you visually. Ordinary things seem amazing all of a sudden. Colours are fresher, and brighter. Like the sunshine on still water, everything seems crisp. The ordinary somehow seems exceptional. There are lots of artists there, painting Coconut palms, turtles, and seals, but I started to look for the familiar and ordinary things that I often see - but I just saw them there through different eyes."

'Terra Australis' The Explorers of Australia in paintings by Christopher McLeod.

Terra Australis is a series of paintings that reflect the fears, hardships and glory that the explorers of Australia experienced in a new land. Christopher McLeod has chosen to represent a core of discoveries and historical incidents that offer a representation of the adventures of these brave men and women. Where possible the paintings include many Aboriginal references including those that helped the explorers. The artist is by environment and association well qualified to present this history, but in the end it is the explorers own stories that inspired the brush, and after all we all like a good yarn.

This series - 16 remaining from the 31 shown in original Sydney exhibition (2008) is proudly presented at Main St Gallery in May 2010

'Expressions of Love' New mixed media works by Kim Schoenberger.

Expressions of love is a series of 3D works in ceramic and mixed media - featuring in several unique works many thousands of recycled teabags, The works demonstrate the skills passed down from the Artist's mother's and grandmother's generations, and the caring and nurturing remains. "Tea bags, like life, are delicate yet strong, fragile yet resilient, stained with the spreading of warm comfort" Kim Schoenberger. These works are being sold to help raise funds for Cancer Research.

Opened -  Sat 8th May 2010 - Closed 30th May 2010.

"After the Burn" - exhibition works - dynamic paintings and mixed media works, from established and respected local Fine Artist, Patricia Cale. These new works express the power and energy created by, and as a result of, the process of fire.  Fire here is seen as creative energy - an undeniable and essential life force, and part of everyday Australian life.  'After the Burn' series of new works are inspired by the process of initial destruction, but then the subtle new creation that, slowly but determined, emerges.  "My work is about the life-force in everything. That force which sings the mysteries..." Patricia Cale "My new paintings draw upon the cathartic experience and are expressed here as metaphor through the natural regeneration of our Australian landscape"
